I made a franken for the Chinese New Year. Red for luck. And gold, which is not lucky per se, but it's gold so still good. These were all taken on a cloudy day.
Macro:
The recipe is easy-peasy.
This franken was inspired by OPI Smitten With Mittens. I was originally going to use the two polishes you see on the right. I was overwhelmed with exams and a cold, something had to give. But enough excuses. This is LA Colors Live stamped with Konad Special White and plate m64. So many people say the Konad polishes are the easiest to stamp with, but I don't really agree. I had to redo this manicure because of smearing, but even when I was careful and light-handed with topcoat the design purplegreenpandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12042481652995809085noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5375476562358659575.post-18447263085560046122011-11-18T23:02:00.003-06:002011-11-18T23:08:49.866-06:00Color Club Charity Ball StampedThis is one of the polishes I won in a giveaway hosted by Paillette! It's Color Club Charity Ball, three coats.
Sunlight (the sun came out after hiding for a week, yarr!):
I stamped with Revlon Copper Penny and plate m64, rotating the design for each finger as I went. Also, I scraped the plate for the pinkie using a metal scraper but with all the other fingers I used a plastic scraper. It madepurplegreenpandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12042481652995809085noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5375476562358659575.post-33414497290843312982011-11-17T23:59:00.000-06:002011-11-18T00:05:51.712-06:00Subtle ZebraI picked up another bottle of Manhattan after using the other one in a franken. But this bottle seems slightly different, thinner less pigmented formula. Nooo! Oh well. This is two coats New York Color Manhattan stamped with New York Color East Village. Pardon the nicked index finger. At some angles it looked like this.
,
And at other angles the design was barely noticeable. Secret design so I purplegreenpandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12042481652995809085noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5375476562358659575.post-29134564142604486132011-11-16T23:27:00.000-06:002011-11-16T23:27:25.606-06:00Variation on a FrankenI caught a cold. My head is fuzzy so fewer text tonight.
This is one part Rimmel Midnight Blue, five parts OPI Simply Smashing, and one part Art Deco Gold Glitter. A variation on yesterday's franken. Except greener, and the addition of Gold Glitter makes this sparkly, in real life anyway.

That's all for today. FrankenWhoops, editing to include the correct recipe. Maybe I shouldn't post under the influence of cold medicine...
Another franken. This one was incredibly hard to take accurate pictures of. It's an olive-green that flashes gold but also looks grassy green at certain angles. This is two parts OPI Simply Smashing, one part OPI Rally Pretty Pink, and one part Sinful Colors Black on Black (highly purplegreenpandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12042481652995809085noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5375476562358659575.post-14931721695755424972011-11-14T22:58:00.000-06:002011-11-14T23:22:20.163-06:00Funky Drunk FrenchArgh! I broke the nail on my thumb! This brings the times I've broken a nail to two. First world pain and suffering. I nubbinized everything and now I have an excuse to try something I've wanted to for a while. It's with a french nail design from plate m45 but on the diagonal. This is one coat Rimmel Midnight Blue stamped with Revlon Copper Penny.
Madly rushing today. These are two polishes I put in my swap/donate pile, but thought I should be thorough and try them again.
Black Diamond is more holo in real life. Probably still not as holo as the good version of CC Revvvolution, but I don't have that polish to compare.
I stamped with plate m64 and reversed colors.

Maybe someone has caught on that I also love frankening. Everything is two coats except the thumb and index which are three.
Index is Sally Hansen Purple Pizazz
Ring is China Glaze Ruby Pumps
Middle is a mix of Ruby Pumps and a little Purple Pizazz
Pinkie is a mix of Purple Pizazz and a little Ruby Pumps
Thumb is Purple Pizazz, Ruby Pumps, purplegreenpandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12042481652995809085noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5375476562358659575.post-976026234119260802011-11-11T22:27:00.000-06:002011-11-11T22:27:08.932-06:00Konad Sandwich, MatteI was just playing around so only pictures of the final product. This is one coat New York Colors West Village, one coat New York Colors East Village, some flowers with Mash fauxnad and Konad Special White. I thought that was too stark so I added another coat of East Village. Then I topped with a topcoat and Essie Matte About You. I like using a topcoat so the surface is as smooth as possible purplegreenpandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12042481652995809085noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5375476562358659575.post-36667220600931738682011-11-10T22:19:00.002-06:002011-11-10T22:22:34.146-06:00Pink Leopard Palate CleanserOr maybe pink cheetah. Actually, no clue. I just felt a bit overwhelmed with the bold colors these past weeks. The base is Revlon Lilac Pastelle, 3 coats. It's a light pink with blue undertones. I did not even bother taking a picture by itself because it bubbled a lot. I stamped with plate m57, and China Glaze Recycle which isn't really a good stamping polish but it works. Then I dotted thepurplegreenpandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12042481652995809085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5375476562358659575.post-66092540336123104062011-11-09T22:53:00.000-06:002011-11-09T22:53:10.165-06:00Goldie FrankenHi folks!
Okay, I have a gold-esque? franken to show today. I eyeballed all of this: About equal parts Sinful Black on Black, clear, gold body shimmer, and nail polish thinner. Cheap cosmetic powders usually require a lot of thinner. Two coats plus topcoat.
Say, anyone interested in helping me name frankens. I'm so bad coming up with names.
Natural light.
There was no sunshine the week purplegreenpandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12042481652995809085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5375476562358659575.post-47564458401660927102011-11-08T22:36:00.000-06:002011-11-08T22:36:41.957-06:00A Cheaper Crown - Layering FunI was talking with some people on the MUA nail board, and we decided that this combo was a good dupe for OPI Crown Me Already. Which is nice, but not a color I was interested in. I thought I'd test it anyway! Two coats LA colors Live under two coats LA Colors Sparking Diamonds topped with Seche Vite. This didn't photograph very well. It'll look better if you click and enlarge. It was very blingy purplegreenpandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12042481652995809085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5375476562358659575.post-29143677268681863562011-11-07T22:45:00.061-06:002011-11-07T23:23:02.398-06:00Nubar 2010 Crackle Sandwich Matte (Pt 2)Sorry, picture heavy!
Aw, man. I know everyone's sick of crackle. I can't help it though. Every single time I see someone use crackle I want to play with my own. I topped yesterday's manicure with China Glaze Black Mesh, and BLAMO! instant regret, again.
So I decided to rescue the manicure with another coat of Nubar 2010. A magically delicious sandwich!
In the photo the flakes pop even purplegreenpandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12042481652995809085noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5375476562358659575.post-17796649881648409622011-11-06T22:07:00.000-06:002011-11-06T22:07:30.230-06:00China Glaze Ruby Pumps Plus Nubar 2010 Pt. 1Nubar 2010 was my first and biggest lemming. I have a confession though. I was really disappointed when I finally bought it. I'm not even sure why. I used up about one-fourth of the bottle wearing it over different colors and trying not to be underwhelmed. That said, I really love it over Ruby Pumps. This is two coats China Glaze Ruby Pumps and one coat Nubar 2010.

I felt like doing something autumnal. This combo makes me swoon!
I don't usually have trouble with Essie but I thought Licorice was difficult to work with. It was runny and I had to deal with cuticle pooling. And if I wasn't layering, I would have done two coats of Licorice because it was splotchy with one. I may add some purplegreenpandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12042481652995809085noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5375476562358659575.post-5303807432235166392011-11-04T22:31:00.000-05:002011-11-04T22:31:27.833-05:00From the Vault: Wet n Wild Waves of EnchantmentThis is my favorite Wet n Wild ever!! It's similar to OPI Rally Pretty Pink but I love this shade so much! I think it's because the metallic particles are larger? I even used this as the main ingredient for a skittles franken I made a while back before I knew it was hard to find. But I don't like frankening with hard to find polishes. /sad panda
The formula is so good! Shown is two coats plus purplegreenpandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12042481652995809085noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5375476562358659575.post-21742752714111181172011-11-03T22:45:00.006-05:002011-11-03T23:03:39.183-05:00Rally Pretty Pink Layered Plus CrackleI topped yesterday's mani with one coat OPI Rally Pretty Pink. I haven't shown this by itself because I'm not too fond of it. In fact, I'm still working out a way to love this in a way that doesn't involve flakes. No flakes because ain't that sort of cheating?
Sunshine at different angles:
It flashes a very strong gold... I'm not sure I like that.
Every time I see someone use crackle I purplegreenpandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12042481652995809085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5375476562358659575.post-60843932991341104162011-11-02T22:26:00.008-05:002011-11-02T23:52:05.031-05:00Jelly Franken Matte and Subtle StampingThis one didn't turn out the way I wanted it to. I mixed N.Y.C. Manhattan, a dark plum creme, with lots of clear. The rule of thumb for jellies is one part creme to two or three parts clear. It's that simple. Manhattan is crazy pigmented so, what you're seeing is one part creme to six parts clear. Crazy! I poured some into my palette and added more clear. The ring finger is splotchy. I have that purplegreenpandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12042481652995809085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5375476562358659575.post-64484584130041619802011-11-01T22:46:00.000-05:002011-11-01T22:46:38.110-05:00NotD: School of Hard Rocks + I Lily Love YouIt's so rare that I post a current manicure. The lag time between taking the picture and posting is (almost hilariously) months. This is also what I wore on Halloween. No time for a themed mani this year. /sad panda
This is two coats of Essie School of Hard Rocks (a dusty teal) topped with OPI I Lily Love You which made SoHR look grey with a blue undertone. I'm not sure I like that.

This is three coats OPI Not Like the Movies topped with one coat OPI I Lily Love You. My camera really likes to make my hands look like a lobster, but I wasn't this red in person. Promise!
I was worried this would cover up the green side, but it purplegreenpandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12042481652995809085noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5375476562358659575.post-71556783155313048832011-10-24T22:51:00.003-05:002011-10-24T23:02:51.770-05:00The glow in the dark polish from Dollar Tree glows really well + a quick and messy experimentI still saw some hanging off the endcaps if anyone wanted to pick one up. They come in neon blue, neon pink, and neon yellow. I only picked up the yellow because I don't have that much use for glow in the dark polishes.
This is what the packaging looks like. Sorry, I opened it up before I thought to take a picture, heehee.

I even recommended it as such in passing to Kimberly from http://libbyspinkvanity.blogspot.com/.... but thought I'd check with a quick swatch... DERP. As you can see, red-orange, vividly so. I took off a color of polish and put it back on again. Well, kinda.
I bunged this one up a bit. I was aiming for as few coats as possible but ended up with seven (!), including base coat. This is two coats Essie Licorice which was almost a one-coater but I mechanically put on two. Plus one layer of OPI Grape Set Match and I am once again purplegreenpandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12042481652995809085noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5375476562358659575.post-73667329868045954882011-10-09T22:00:00.000-05:002011-10-09T22:00:54.249-05:00OPI Grape Set MatchOPI Grape Set Match (I'm going to ignore the ellipses) from one of the England Glam Slam sets. I love this color! I took a hundred pictures but I'm not loving any of them. Bugger. But at different angles it's violet, purple, or blue. This is going into the top 20 of the year! and I'm sorta bummed more people aren't talking about it. A consequence of an oversaturated market.
